Day 1: Cusco to Machu Picchu via the Inca Trail

Your adventure begins with a 4:00 AM pickup from your hotel in Cusco. From there, you’ll take a scenic 1 hour and 45-minute drive to the Ollantaytambo Train Station, where you’ll board the train at 6:10 AM or 6:40 AM. The train will take you to Km 104, the starting point of your trek.

At Km 104, you’ll meet your tour guide, check in at the Inca Trail control point, and start your hike with a visit to the Chachabamba archaeological site. After exploring Chachabamba, begin an uphill trek lasting about 3 to 3.5 hours. This section of the trail offers incredible views as you make your way to Wiñay Wayna, one of the most impressive Inca ruins. Here, your guide will provide insights into its history, and you’ll enjoy your packed lunch and a short rest.

From Wiñay Wayna, continue hiking toward the Sun Gate (Intipunku). This spot provides breathtaking views of Machu Picchu, and you may catch the golden hues of the afternoon light over the ancient city. As you descend into Machu Picchu, take time to capture photos and enjoy a brief guided tour of the site’s highlights.

At 5:00 PM, take a 30-minute bus ride down to Aguas Calientes, where you’ll enjoy dinner at a local restaurant. Afterward, board the train around 6:30 PM for a 1.5-hour ride back to Ollantaytambo. Upon arrival, our transfer will drive you back to Cusco, arriving at your hotel around 10:00 PM.
