Inca Trail 2-Day Trek to Machu Picchu: Itinerary

Day 1: Cusco – Ollantaytambo – Km 104 – Inca Trail to Machu Picchu

On your first day, you will be transferred to your hotel in Cusco between 3:45 and 4:15 AM Several of these locations have pick-up points we also have ones in the Sacred Valley. Pick-up from Cusco (to Ollantaytambo) 1 hour and 45 minutes (6h40 Train to Km. 104 departs early, at 11:15 AM; drive from Cusco followed by the train and finally hiking to destination) Now you will arrive the Km 104 meeting your guide and registering at the Inca Trail check point

After arriving at Km 104, you’ll meet up with your local guide and check in at the Inca Trail control point. After the 6560 ft (2000 m), it will be a gradual ascent to 8860 ft (2700 m) then another 3 hours. On the way, you will visit Wiñay Wayna archaeological site and your guide will explaining the history and importance. Here you are also going to have a packed lunch.

Hike for around two hours after lunch to the Sun Gate (Intipunku) on a rather flat path. Machu Picchu will be unveiled by your first incredible view from up here. You have the chance to enjoy your views, for about 45 minutes descend into the upper zone of Machu Picchu where great photos with Waynapicchu in the background will be captured.

You will be dropped off by bus to Aguas Calientes for the return, a drive of about three hours starting at mid-day. Tour organized to have you stay in a hotel once you reach town Fit to about 7 PM – Eat ad Discus the plans for next day with (local restarant).

Day 2: Machu Picchu Tour – Return to Cusco

Start your day early with breakfast at 5:00 AM before boarding one of the first buses at 5:30 AM to Machu Picchu, arriving at the main gate by 6:00 AM. Begin your 2.5-hour guided tour of the site, exploring its most significant areas and learning about its history. After the guided tour, enjoy around 30 minutes of free time to wander on your own. Note that the maximum allowed time inside Machu Picchu is three hours.

If you’ve booked additional tickets to hike Waynapicchu or Machu Picchu Mountain, your guide will help you find the entrance. These hikes typically take 2 to 2.5 hours round trip and offer breathtaking views of the area. Reservations for Waynapicchu must be made in advance, as spots are limited.
