Our first stop is Killarumiyoc, a fascinating archaeological site located at 11,617 feet (3,541 meters) above sea level. This ancient temple is dedicated to the moon goddess, revered by the Incas. The intricate stonework and mystical atmosphere make it a place full of wonder. As you wander through the site, you’ll learn about its spiritual significance and the advanced stone-cutting techniques of the Incas.
Next, we visit Tarawasi, another remarkable Inca site situated at 9,350 feet (2,850 meters). This place showcases the precision and artistry of Inca construction. The ceremonial platform and agricultural terraces here hint at its importance in the empire. Our guide will share fascinating stories about its history and cultural relevance, bringing the ruins to life.
By midday, we arrive in Limatambo, a charming town nestled at 8,366 feet (2,550 meters). Here, you’ll enjoy a delicious lunch featuring local flavors. The tranquil setting of Limatambo provides the perfect spot to relax and recharge before the next part of our journey.
The highlight of the day is a visit to Condor Canyon, located near the stunning Apurímac Canyon at an elevation of 11,811 feet (3,600 meters). This is one of the best places to witness the majestic Andean condors in flight. These incredible birds, with wingspans of up to 10 feet, glide effortlessly over the canyon, offering a breathtaking spectacle. The dramatic views of the canyon itself, carved by the powerful Apurímac River, add to the awe-inspiring experience.
As the day winds down, we make our way back to Cusco, arriving at your hotel around 5:00 PM. The return journey offers one last chance to take in the Andean scenery, reflecting on a day filled with history, nature, and unforgettable moments.
