What to Bring:
The Palcoyo mountain range, as well as Vinicunca, (Rainbow Mountain), originate thanks to an impressive geological process where the strata of the earth are aligned creating layers of different colors with a surprising effect.
Near Palcoyo you can also find a mysterious forest of stones, where whimsical rock formations give shape to a geological labyrinth.
The difficulty of the hike to the Cordillera de Colores de Palcoyo is moderate, and this makes it interesting for people who do not like to walk much or who do not have enough performance to do trekking.
The Cordillera de Colores Palcoyo is a new destination, so it is very difficult to find hotels or hostels, however, there are houses with lodging in the town center of Checacupe and you can also choose the option of staying overnight in Chuquicahuana.
You will find local restaurants that cater to tourists, in the district of Checacupe and enjoy the typical dishes of the area.
The best season to go sightseeing and visit the Cordillera de Colores Palcoyo, is during the dry season, between the months of May to October, during this season the weather is pleasant and helps to observe more clearly the Cordillera de Palcoyo, thanks to the sunny days of the season, and thus, take fantastic pictures in this incredible place.
Near the Cordillera de Colores de Palcoyo, there is a small tributary of water that during the rainy season increases its flow, carrying with it the reddish soil of the land where it is located. This river takes on the same coloration that has attracted the attention of many visitors.
The effort and time required to reach Palcoyo is less than that needed to reach Vinicunca, and Vinicunca receives hundreds of tourists daily, so the scenic experience is less than that of visiting Palccoyo.
Undoubtedly, Vinicunca remains the biggest challenge for intrepid travelers eager to conquer this challenge, while Palcoyo is an excellent option for those who want a more accessible route.

ExcellentBased on 3 reviewslehtierik2018-07-03Amazing trek with the best guide I did the Inca trail to Machupicchu for 4 days and 3 nights, with Salkantay Trekkers Peru. Our organization was excellent I joined a group of 6 people. We had the briefing one night before our departure where our guide Jose gave us full information and some suggestions. The service was very good, with all the staff that we went from the first day between them it is worth mentioning the service of our Cheff and our porters who were the people who took our travel luggage. The whole group saw the desire to work as a team, and in a professional manner. Our Guide Jose very kind and attentive with all the group of tourists and the staff of the Agency. I had the best travel experience with this group and very organized, I congratulate the whole group for making me part of this unforgettable experience. I recommend this travel agency in Cusco, for those people who are interested in traveling to Machu Picchu.Belen F2018-07-03El mejor!! Machu Picchu mi Excursión con ellos. Organizaros perfectamente.
