Day 1: Exploration of the Sacred Valley and Train Journey to Aguas Calientes
The day begins early with a pickup from your hotel or Airbnb in Cusco, scheduled between 6:30 and 7:00 AM. From there, the journey takes you to the picturesque town of Chinchero, located about 45 minutes away. Known for its rich history and cultural heritage, Chinchero offers a fascinating glimpse into the Inca and colonial eras. Here, you’ll explore an ancient Inca archaeological site and a colonial temple, both brimming with history. You’ll also visit a local craft center, where artisans demonstrate traditional textile and weaving techniques, providing a unique insight into the region’s vibrant traditions.
After immersing yourself in the history and culture of Chinchero, the tour continues to the famous archaeological site of Moray. These unique circular terraces are believed to have been used as an agricultural laboratory by the Incas. Your guide will explain the significance of this site, and you’ll have some free time to explore and capture photos of this incredible engineering marvel.
Next, you’ll head to the Maras Salt Mines, located about 45 minutes away by car. Upon arrival in Aguas Calientes, hotel personnel will greet you at the train station and escort you to your accommodations. You’ll settle into your room at the ANDIMO MACHU PICCHU Hotel or a similar establishment, where you can relax and freshen up.
In the evening, enjoy dinner at your leisure, and at 7:30 PM, your guide will meet you at the hotel to review the details of the next day’s visit to Machu Picchu. With everything in place, you can rest and prepare for an exciting day ahead.
Day 2: Guided Tour in Machu Picchu and Return to Cusco
The second day begins early with breakfast at your hotel around 5:00 AM. Afterward, you’ll head to the bus station to catch the 5:30 AM bus to Machu Picchu. The short 25-minute ride winds through the lush mountains, building anticipation for the day’s main highlight.
Upon arrival at Machu Picchu’s main entrance around 6:00 AM, you’ll enter the iconic Inca citadel with your group and guide. The first stop is at the upper terraces, where you’ll enjoy the classic panoramic view of Machu Picchu. Weather permitting, this is the perfect spot to witness the sunrise, a truly magical experience as the sunlight illuminates the ancient ruins.
Your guide will then lead a comprehensive 2.5-hour tour of Machu Picchu, delving into its history, architecture, and cultural significance. The drive back to Cusco takes about 2 hours, allowing you to reflect on the incredible experiences of the past two days.
