Day 1: Cusco – Tinki – Ausangate Seven Lakes – Cusco

Your Ausangate Seven Lakes adventure begins early, with a convenient pick-up from your accommodation in Cusco between 4:30 AM and 5:00 AM. After gathering all participants, we’ll embark on a scenic drive to the village of Tinki, located approximately two hours from Cusco. This journey offers picturesque views of the Andean highlands, with rolling hills and snow-capped peaks in the distance.

From Tinki, the journey continues with another hour’s drive to the starting point of the hike. Upon arrival, a hearty breakfast will be served, giving you the energy needed to begin your trek through this stunning region.

The Hike to the Seven Lakes

The hike starts with a gentle uphill trail that takes about 1.5 hours to reach the first lake. This serene spot provides the first glimpse of the turquoise and emerald waters that define this magical landscape. The subsequent six lakes are spread out along mostly flat or downhill terrain, making the hike accessible and enjoyable for participants of varying fitness levels. Along the way, you’ll be surrounded by towering glaciers, lush pastures, and grazing llamas and alpacas, all under the watchful presence of Ausangate Mountain.

Each lake has its unique beauty and charm, ranging in colors from deep blue to striking green. You’ll have ample time at each location to take stunning photos, listen to fascinating insights from your guide about the region’s geology and cultural significance, and immerse yourself in the tranquil surroundings.

Lunch and Relaxation

After the hike, we’ll pause to enjoy a well-deserved lunch. The delicious meal, prepared with local ingredients, provides a perfect opportunity to recharge while soaking in the natural beauty around you. For an added treat, unwind with a relaxing dip in the thermal baths, which offer panoramic views of the majestic Ausangate Mountain and its pristine environment. The soothing waters are a welcome relief after a day of exploration.

Return to Cusco

As the day comes to a close, we’ll begin our return journey to Cusco. The three-hour drive back allows you to reflect on the awe-inspiring landscapes and experiences of the day. Expect to arrive in Cusco by approximately 7:00 PM, with memories of an unforgettable adventure in the heart of the Andes.
